Lake Como tour is definitely one of the main thing to do in Italy, but what are the major places to visit on Lake Como attractions and when is the best time to visit it?
Who better to advise us than Andrea Cattoni from our team of drivers and guide who lives in this area.
Which kind of car do you use for your Lake Como tour and which is your favorite one?
I started this business with my father in the 2005 and we always used Mercedes sedan and minivan, I like this brand because all their vehicles are robust, reliable and comfortable.
My favorite one is definitely the Mercedes class S, for its high quality, the comfort offered and the agreeable in driving.
You are probably one of the most experienced driver of the region, what is the best time of the year to visit the lake Como and why?
The best time to enjoy Lake Como is from May to September, during this period the lake and the surrounding mountains give best scenarios for brightness and colors.
In June and July visitors can appreciate the colors of the sunset, while enjoying a drink in one of the many bars on the promenade. It’s one of the best things to do in Italy during your vacation.
August is also a nice month, mostly sunny and warm, but it can be crowded. August is the month that all Italians go for summer holidays so the lake area can be congested and the prices are higher.
What is the minimum time a person should spend visiting Lake of Como?
Lake Como does not look very large, but its coast is very extensive. A complete tour of the lake is about 100 miles. I suggest a tour of about 8 hours visiting the Western side of the lake the part between Como, Bellagio and Tremezzo.
You just mentioned Como, Bellagio and Tremezzo. These are probably the three most important places of the lake. Are there some lesser known towns and areas that are just as beautiful and worth visiting?
All the villages on the lake are beautiful, but suggest a visti to Cernobbio on the Western side of the lake. It is a charming village and home of the famous Grand Hotel Villa D’Este. The village of Lenno near Tremezzo is also interesting to visit as there is from there a unique beautiful view of the lake which is quiet and very romantic. This part of the lake from Lenno to Villa Balbianello is named the Gulf of Venere. Another beautiful village on the western coast is Menaggio. From here you have a great scenic view of Bellagio which is on the opposite shore.
And on the eastern shore is also Varenna. Bellaggio and Varenna are considered the pearls of Lake Como.
Where is the best place to have lunch during an excursion to the lake?
Lake Como offers many panoramic restaurants for all the budgets where you can have lunch and admire the beautiful scenery. I usually suggest stopping and having lunch in Bellagio, it is convenient because it offers many bars and restaurants and also there is a nice shopping area.
Como Lake is certainly one of the most scenic places in Italy. Making it an paradise for photographers. What is the best location from which to take amazing pictures? And what is the best time of the day to take them?
I had many great photographers as clients and I learned that the most beautiful pictures are taken in summer and in the morning. This is the time when the light catches the colors of the lake and the surrounding nature. All spots around the lake are nice to take pictures, of course Brunate and its panoramic terraces overlooking the lake and city of Como is one of my favorite spots.
For the clients who spend several days at the lake Como, which other excursion would you suggest ?
As other excursion to do in Italy I would suggest that they consider the excursion to the Swiss Alps and St. Moritz on the famous “Bernina Express” train. This is a really fantastic day trip. I usually drive my clients early in the morning from Como to Tirano (approx. two and half hours) from where they continue on board of the “Bernina Express” to St Moritz crossing tall mountains, alpine lakes and the Bernina glaciers. In the afternoon after the visit of the Swiss city of Saint Moritz I pick up the client and drive them back to Lake
Como.
