Tivoli
Our English speaking driver will take you to Tivoli just 20 miles east of Rome. Here you can visit independently or with an optional local guide the two most famous tourist attractions in Tivoli, Hadrians Villa and the Villa D’Este and its magnificent gardens. The Villa of the Emperor Hadrian is in the countryside. It is quiet and not overcrowded with tourists. Before starting your visit, you will stop in a little pavilion where you will see a scale model of the original size of the Villa. After your visit to Villa Adriana you will continue to Tivoli and the Villa D’Este. The lavish villa was built over a Benedictine monastery in 1550 for Cardinal Ippolito d’Este, son of Lucrezia Borgia, merely as a pleasure palace. Inside the Villa, by mannerist architect Pirro Logorio, there are frescoes and paintings. The main attraction is the garden, beautifully cool and refreshing, with huge elaborate fountains from the grand Hundred Fountains and Fountain of the Dragons, to a miniature watery reproduction of Rome. After the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
