The beautiful Aosta Valley is surrounded by the highest peaks in the Alps. Here you will find unspoilt country and wonderful villages and beautiful castles.
Not only does this region offer gorgeous landscapes but also much history. Roman and Medieval sites are found throughout. Aosta itself is a Roman city with its Augustan Arch and Porta Pretoria.
The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is worth a visit. There are archeological excavations below it. Also interesting to see is the Piazza Chanoux and the 9th Century Collegiata di Sant’Orso.
If you are there in late January you can take part in the festival of Sant’Orso along with many tourists that come every year to see the locals where traditional costumes and show their local artisan goods.
