The town of Villa dei Vescovi takes its name from a villa built in the sixteenth century which used to be the summer residence of the bishop of Padua. The villa is still famous for its monumental staircase, for the Italian style garden and for the inside frescoes in the hall and rooms. Villa dei Vescovi was donated to the Italian NGO FAI ( Fondo Ambiente Italiano ) and is open almost all year round. It regularly hosts events where local growers present their products such as wines with the three versions, sweet, sparkling and dry. “Fiore d’Arancio” is the most famous of the wines with its unique scent and citrine taste.
Arquà Petrarca
Arquà Petrarca is the most popular of the Euganei Hills villages. This small town having a population of less than 2000 people preserves a medieval character. It is the place where the great poet Petrarch lived the last years of his life in his house which is now a museum. One can still see the original frescoed walls and furniture.
Visit the “Casa del Petrarca” from Tuesday to Sunday – November to February from 09.00am to 12.30pm and from 2.30pm to 5.30 pm.
